In the early morning of April 19, following an NYPD raid the previous day, dozens of Columbia University students pitched tents on the North Lawn of the school's sprawling campus.
The students demanded that the school discloses its finances and divests from all companies with ties to Israel, whose military campaign in Gaza by that time had killed some 30,000.
I spent the next two weeks visiting the campus encampment. When the school was placed on lockdown, I stayed.
